A Convoluted remedy to my soft hands
ACRSH began as a live video performance at the start of the Covid 19 Pandemic. I began to examine the ways in which we cope and heal ourselves, who has access to care, and how that ties into my own inherited diasporic therapies. When I was a child, my Trinidadian grandma had a remedy for ringworm which consisted of mixing small electric blue stones with Vaseline and applying to the affected area. It was only 20 years later, that I discovered that “blue stone” is indeed an anti-fungal agent, but one used for livestock and crops. From there I began to piece together what happens to a people when access to adequate medical care is purposely withheld and the creativity and inherited knowledge of plant medicine that was needed in order to survive. This work is a witness to how these remedies continue to affect us.
ACRSH is an ongoing performance project that combines live performance and video projections. With every live performance a new video is created, which will then be incorporated into the next performance. Flattening time - I converse with my ancestral self.
